Emma's First Christmas & Luke's Gingerbread House! - Motherhood ...

by Kimberly on December 20, 2012

I loved Jennie?s idea of making a bucket list of things they want to do each Christmas. There?s so much to do this time of year it can easily get stressful keeping up with it all when you want to do it ALL and you can?t. It?s easy to feel obligated to make your kid?s Christmas memorable and then stress over it when really all they need is to be around a happy and fun family at home ? if you?re happy, your kids will have fun trust me, they will remember the?spirit of Christmas much more than running from one activity to another.

We?re making a list of things we?ve enjoyed doing this year and some of those things are ?firsts? for us so I?m keeping notes on what we want to do again and things that aren?t worth going back to. I?m also noting timing of things?we went to one of our fav?s, The Christmas Ranch, last Friday night. It was packed and too busy for us to really enjoy it so I?m thinking I?ll go back with Luke and my parents during the week before Christmas to compare it and see if it?s less busy. Two years ago we went for the first time and it was nothing short of magical, we loved it and were so bummed we missed it last year. Apparently, everyone in Cincinnati (and one family drove 2 hours to get there! WOW!) thought so too because our little hidden gem was no longer hidden. If you wanted to get any hot cocoa you had to wait for quite a while in line and there was no room to sit by the fire, although even standing behind the crowds of people you could still feel the heat from the fire!

I?ve also been re-thinking things now that we have Emma this holiday season?she does not like being out past her bedtime of 6:30-7:00pm and will pretty much cry until you get her into bed. I can?t say that I blame her and I don?t think it?s fair to mess with her routine. I recently took her 2 month picture and I can?t believe how quickly she is changing!

2 Months

At 2 months old she has grown so much and she weighs 12lbs, 85th percentile and both weight and height. She usually wakes once to nurse at night and her personality is really starting to show. She has been cooing away at us, with so much to say. She hates getting dressed and screams like you?re torturing her but loves having her dirty diaper changed. She will let you know when she has a dirty diaper and demand you change it?now. She is much more of a cuddler than Luke and will sit with me in the rocking chair, happy as can be. She loves car rides, except when we?re running errands A-L-L day. She doesn?t like tummy time, except when big brother reads to her and keeps her company. When Daddy sings goodnight to her, he has to change it up frequently because she gets to know when the end of the song is and will cry before he?s finished, wanting more time with Daddy.

While Julian and Emma were resting on Saturday, I decided to take Luke out for a some one on one time. We headed out to Iron?s Fruit Farm to make a gingerbread house. I?ve loved doing this at home but I have to admit that it was nice to take a break from the kitchen and let someone else prepare everything we needed. We love Iron?s Fruit Farm and this was no different ? the girls helping us were so great and we had a lot of fun getting out of the house, just the two of us! Luke is so patient and sweet to his sister and tells me everyday ?I love my sister? so I feel it?s important to give him a break too and get some one on one time with him every now and again. We had two of their famous home made doughnuts, one bottle of water and made a gingerbread house for $10?totally worth it! They are doing gingerbread houses for one more weekend so be sure to check out if you are looking to get out of the house for some holiday fun!
