Spidola prize in economics is awarded to ... - Baltic News Network

This year?s Spidola prize in economics from the Economists Union 2010 was awarded to Education and Science Minister Roberts Kilis. The prize was given to him for creating the vision of competitive education and first hand achievements in reforming the industry.

When explaining the union?s choice, the President of the organization ? Ojars Kehris ? praised the achievements of all candidates in their respected fields. But the award of Spidola prize to Kilis shows the important role of education in the development of Latvia?s national economy, Economists? Union 2010 informed BNN.

?The ministry?s reorganization, concentration of funds on long-term professional education projects, stricter accreditation of education programs, the linking of teachers? salaries to their quality of work ? those are some of the first tasks that should be continued. Kilis managed to amass great support of society by discussing issues with parents, experts of different fields and social partners,? ? Kehris said.

The award ceremony will take place at the Riga Latvian Community House on November 15.
